In our blog we inform you about the latest news from Gran Canaria.

New buildings and modernisations in Maspalomas on Gran Canaria

Unfortunately, my new blog has been a little delayed, but it was neither due to listlessness nor a lack of topics. The daily routine at work and in my private life have taken a lot out of me, but that's a good thing. Many, many people have thankfully found their way back to the island, which of course pleases the islanders, business people and tourists alike. There is a great spirit of optimism and Corona is no longer the all-dominant topic of the day. The number of people suffering from covid on the Canary Islands has dropped considerably, while the number of people who have been fully vaccinated is very high at around 85%. We are all looking forward to a good winter season, many wintering tourists have already found the right flat, bungalow or house.
The demand and the wanderlust of Gran Canaria fans is great, so the prices are basically unchanged from previous years, rather slightly increased. The demand for properties for sale is also high, but more on this and on the topic of "Price trends for real estate on Gran Canaria" in a forthcoming blog post.

Gran Canaria has been trying for years to improve the quality of tourism and infrastructure in order to remain competitive, not only because of our excellent and constant year-round climate.
The government and its policy can still improve the speed and the approval procedures here and there, because not only the Berlin airport took too long. Nevertheless, a lot has happened in the recent past and during Corona. Private investors and the government have provided a breath of fresh air, started new buildings and implemented planned redevelopments. For example:

I myself have always complained about the outdated footpath on the promenade in Meloneras. As if I had been listened to, the time has finally come and things are progressing quickly. The first pictures in this blog post show the renovations of the first section. It will be very nice, the approx. 1.2 kilometres will cost a total of around 1,129,000 euros and is expected to be completed in February 2022.

A section of road between Playa del Inglés and San Agustín is also currently being renovated. In the meantime, there was an interruption in the construction work because the cost estimate of around 3.8 million euros was exceeded, but now the work is continuing and an end is in sight. On the Avenida de la Unión Europea, two lanes have been converted into wider pavements and a new cycle path. Further investments are being made in the beautification of the zone and new LED street lamps. Some say it wasn't necessary, but I think it's good and I'm always in favour of renewal. Because standing still is and remains a step backwards and no one can want that. So many people hope that the long-planned water park (Siam Park) of the Kiessling family will be built in Playa del Inglés, we remain optimistic.

A new and futuristic looking administration building has recently been built by the hotel group "Seaside Hoetels" of the German entrepreneur Theo Gerlach. This eye-catching building is located near the police station or the CC Eurocenter on the Avenida de la Unión Europea and bears the name "Seaside Collection".

If you drive past the aforementioned Seaside administration building, you will reach the large roundabout at the two office towers called "Edificio Mercurio" after about 300 m. This roundabout connects the tourist zone of Playa del Inglés with the residential zone of San Fernando. Some drivers or pedestrians may have noticed one of my advertising signs there, but at this point I am referring to the new building with the construction crane in the background. A Burger King branch is being built there on a 1,600 square metre plot of land on two floors. The construction costs amount to about 1,130,000 euros and are expected to last about 7 months. It can only be a clear improvement, because this plot has been lying fallow since 2010 and it looked anything but tidy.

Another major project was the complete renovation of the "Holiday World" in Maspalomas. In this entertainment centre with carousels, roller coaster, Ferris wheel, other rides as well as bowling alleys, many bars, restaurants and "Nomad Gastro Market" there is something for everyone. Approximately 14,000,000 euros have been invested in the amusement park. If you want to work off some calories after the fun, just go to the "Ozone Boutique Gym", a great, modernised gym with pool, sauna and sports courses, which is located on the upper floor of Holiday World.

Furthermore, a section of the "Centro Sonnenland" in Maspalomas, which had been at a standstill for many years, has been further built and completed. As it appears from the outside, only the interior finishing is still missing. This centre will also be used as an office centre.

Various hotels have also taken advantage of the Corona break and opened their wallets wide. The "Gloria Palace Royal Hotel & Spa" has completely modernised the house in San Agustín. A beautiful hotel with an excellent restaurant called "Gorbea" on the roof terrace with a fantastic view of the sea. Of course, guests who are not booked into the hotel can also visit this restaurant.

The hotel "RIU Palace Maspalomas" directly on the dunes in Playa del Inglés (Avenida de Gran Canaria / corner of Avenida de Alemania) has also been completely renovated to a high standard, so you are guaranteed a great holiday in this hotel.

The RIU Group has also completely modernised the hotel "RIU Palmeras" near "La Sandía" on the Avenida de Estados Unidos. Here, too, you will probably feel right at home.

The Lopesan Group has renovated and refurbished the very well-known and popular hotel "Gran Costa Meloneras" in recent months. Here, too, you will be able to spend a perfect holiday under the Canary Islands sun.

Finally, I would not like to forget to mention the "Hotel Sol Barbacan", because this house has also been renovated, it is located on the Avenida de Tirajana near the Yumbocentre.

I think some of you have not been to the island for a long time. Come back soon, Canarian hospitality, a beautiful island and lots of sun are waiting for you.

Many greetings from Gran Canaria
